Pond's | Firming Serum Sheet Mask Review

Hello friends!
Following the Faith in Face sheet masks (which you can read about here), the next set of face masks in focus would be the sheet masks by Pond's.

Recently, Pond's has released a sheet mask line dubbed as '15-minute miracle serum masks', emphasizing the '30x serum intensity' of the Pond’s Age Miracle Double Action Serum which is packed in every sheet mask (which in simpler terms means that these masks contain up to a 30-time use of this serum in one mask application compared to other regular face serums from the brand)

The serum in these masks is said to be 'lightweight and water-based' which enables it to be 'quickly absorbed by your skin without clogging up pores' and also works in 'countering dark spots and skin discoloration'. Because of its texture, this serum is lighter to the skin compared to those of moisturizers. Water-based serums are even said to be one of the best options for people with oily skin type as it can hydrate your face better without having to feel greasy after application. Active ingredients which include hyaluronic acid, vitamin E, collagen, and other more skin-renewing antioxidants are the main guys in letting you bring out that glowy skin. Based on the packaging, these masks are also made in Korea.

There are 3 variants of the sheet masks which include: Wrinkle Correcting (Red), Firming (Purple), and Skin Brightening (Pink).

Just a heads-up that I will be dividing the reviews for this set into two parts since I tried the first mask in a previous week compared with the other two which were used in the same week.

First Impressions:
Okay, so first off, one of the things that made me grab these masks off the shelves was my curiosity that Pond's has finally released a sheet mask line. Aside from having affordable basic skincare products like facial washes, toners, and moisturizers, Pond's has really been a favorite brand by a lot of friends I know as they are also usually endorsed by popular faces in the local entertainment scene. I guess I could say that most of my friends probably have at least one Pond's product in their skincare stash (or if not, they've tried one at least once in their life. and I'm not an exception to that as well haha). So, when I saw this product in the nearest department store and even in their Instagram account (@pondsph 😉), the sheet mask lover in me got excited with all questions and exclamations like: 'Wow! Serum masks? 30X Serum Intensity in one sheet? Their sheet masks look so fancy with this metallic-looking packaging!'. And I guess you could say, the rest is history.

So now, let's get down to business and review the first mask I tried from this set.

Pond's Firming Serum Mask (Front and back of packaging)

Claims, Functions, and Key Ingredients:

"BOOSTS SKIN'S NATURAL PLUMPING POWER"

Key ingredients as presented on the packaging are Collagen, Hyaluronic Acid, and Brown Algae Extract.

Collagen is something which is present in our body that helps in sustaining it and also making it firm. Something to highlight though is that application of skincare products which include collagen does not replace or increase how the levels are in our body; however, applying such products consistently can help in improving the skin, preventing wrinkles and other skins of aging, and keeping it supple.

Having Hyaluronic Acid (or HA) as an ingredient helps in boosting skin moisture and skin strength (a plus especially to those who live in countries with a hot season and humid climate) which means that it smoothes the skin and lessens wrinkles through repairing skin tissue. Additionally, it protects the skin against harmful UVB rays.

Brown Algae Extract (or also called as seaweed) does a lot of things which include being an antioxidant to detoxify the skin with anti-bacterial properties as well as softening the skin. Similar to the other two key ingredients, Brown Algae Extract 'firms and renews skin tissue (with amino acids) while fighting against inflammation (with fatty acids)'.

Product Review:
When I opened the packet, there were two things that I noticed. One is that this one pack definitely has a LOT of essence/serum in it. Two is that the sheet mask material is definitely thin. I was happy about the former since it ticked off one box in its claims, but the latter had me do a double-take. One challenging thing about sheet masks for me is that if the sheet material is thin (or too thin), it would probably be difficult to unfold. And unfolding the mask is somewhat the first half that is time-consuming when I do sheet masking (while the second part is having to adjust the mask on your face). For the first point, true enough that when I tried taking it out of the packet, the essence was really dripping from the mask (you probably couldn't see the droplets on the packet in the second photo below but there really were some haha). It was good to still have some extra essence to put on my elbows, knees, and neck. 😊👍

So, that was a good part. With that, it was somewhat satisfying to see that it had my money's worth. Now, over to the sheet mask material. Since I mentioned that it was thin, my worry there was about the unfolding part. Props that it wasn't that difficult to unfold, but I still felt like standing on my tippy toes trying not to tear the sheet (which I can tell you is a very unfortunate experience if you've already tried 🙋). For the fit on my face, I was in the middle of thinking whether I should be amazed or not since it was a big mask. Just too wide for my face though, lemme tell you. Don't get me wrong, I love wide sheet masks which can cover the forehead, cheeks, and even the chin area. But, having the sides of a sheet mask filled with essence cover up to my hair and my ears isn't exactly my definition of a comfortable sheet mask experience. Another point to add for me also was that the space for the nose area was sort of bigger which didn't cover my nose and its sides fully. A little of top forehead area also lacked cover since the mask didn't unfold well at that part.

The scent of this mask was okay for me. It was a common scent I distinguished from products which contain Collagen in them. Since I've tried a couple other skincare products with Collagen, I was used to the smell and I didn't find it irritating during application. On another point for the good side, this mask adhered well and tightened the face. There was just a lot of essence, but it was still another okay for me since it didn't sting or irritate my skin.

After using this mask, the usual 'after-mask glow' was visible, but my face felt a bit sticky after (which made my skin feel bouncy at that moment) and made me wait quite longer than usual to put on the next step in my skincare routine. I guess it's from the generous amount of essence anyway. With everything going on, I would say the price of this mask was also somewhat up there for me, but it was okay considering the essence amount since it was as written on the packaging. The next day though, I oiled up a bit on the nose area when I woke up (but I wouldn't account it yet on the mask tho even tho it lacked coverage on the nose area). I'm not really sure and this is me showing my skincare newbie side, but I have combination skin type so it was not that a huge issue for me (probs just not really showing really great after effects).

Pros:
→ REALLY generous amount of essence
→ Scent is similar to usual products with Collagen in them; not irritating
→ Adhered well to the face
→ Price was okay for the amount of essence it had
→ No stinging or irritation observed

Cons:
→ Sheet mask material is too thin
→ (also) A bit difficult to unfold
→ Not a fan of the mask's fit on the face
→ (which as a result) Felt somewhat uncomfortable wearing the mask

Go-Buy or No-Buy?
Things were a-okay for me with this mask, in terms of the essence amount, the price, and the feeling you get after use. I love the concept of these somewhat luxurious-looking packaging as well. However, this is going to be a No-Buy for me. There's just something about the sheet mask material and size as well as having to cover my hair and ears along with the essence. I guess it would be good if there was something to be done about the fit of the mask without having to consider an option of cutting some of its parts ('cause that just takes time and lazy pm skincare routines can't really insert that in the schedule 😔).

That's all. Thank you for reading this review!
Stay tuned for the second part of this set review to also know about my experience with the other masks. 😊
