My Scheming | Aloe Soothing Restoring Black Mask Review

Hello friends!
Another mask I will be reviewing is the Aloe Soothing Restoring Black Mask from the Taiwanese brand, My Scheming.

So, a little backstory before we get into reviewing this mask.

This brand started in 2004 and continued to build a strong reputation with its focus on high quality yet affordable products. They have a variety of products aside from face mask sets which include eye masks, night jelly creams, and even an acne combo solution set.

Based on the brand's website:

"'My Scheming' brand was originated from our belief in 'putting action immediately = the motive power of beauty'. All women should enjoy the improvement on their skin texture regardless of their skin nature and the seasonal changes. Here every woman can find the best, unique care for her own skin at 'My Scheming'. Starting from today, let 'My Scheming' reward your overtired skin entirely with special treat using only the most precious extract from the great nature."

My Scheming Aloe Soothing Restoring Black Mask (Front and back of packaging)

First Impressions:

What got me interested with this mask was its variant name. I love skincare products which contain aloe in them (plus I have combination/sensitive skin which needs soothing), so you could only imagine how curious I was on what this mask was about. I kept seeing this brand with its other different variants while I was doing other face mask hauls but just didn't have my hand reaching out for it at the time. One more thing was that I got a bit wary around charcoal sheet masks since I didn't have a lot of good experiences with previous ones I've tried a couple years back. Especially when I'm doing hauls on a budget, what I ought to purchase is always put on a list (i need to keep my wallet sane as well haha). This one wasn't on my list during my last mini mask haul, but I just thought: 'why not try one variant?' Everything on the label seemed enticing enough for me, so I got this one off the shelf. 😊

Claims and Key Ingredients:
Its claims off from the front of the packaging state: 'Upgraded Formula, Soft Touch, Perfect Attachment'.

Its claim regarding the key ingredient also says: "Aloe contains amino acids, Vitamins A, C, E, and B Complex, which has a great hydrating ability to moisturize skin base, minimize skin pores, and restore damaged skin."

Moreover, including Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice (which is in the ingredients list; refer below) in skincare can work as an anti-inflammatory agent and help in soothing the skin while moisturizing and hydrating it. The mentioned vitamins (C and E) which are in Aloe aid in protecting the skin from negative effects that we get from being exposed to pollution, the sun and its harmful UV rays, and other possible irritants.

Product Review:

As I have not tried previous (or even other present) variants from My Scheming, I cannot say anything about the upgraded formula as I have nothing to compare it with. Verifying it with the other claims on this mask's packaging, this one indeed has a 'soft touch' to its black sheet mask material and (as will later be mentioned) also performed with 'perfect attachment' to the skin. The scent of this mask is a bit strong for me. It's a mix of somewhat soapy and fruity (more soapy ðŸ˜•). It has a lot of essence in the pack which has a watery consistency along with the sheet mask. I was not much a fan of the essence consistency though because it felt too runny for me. For the fit of this one, it didn't reach my forehead area that fully, but other sides were a good fit (even for the holes in the eyes, nose, and mouth area). The adherence to the face was also good.

However, as previously mentioned, I was bothered by the scent which is why around more than 5 minutes in application it started to irritate my nose and even cause me to sneeze. I'm quite sensitive when it comes to certain fragrances which means I'm not much of a fan if a product emits a scent which is too soapy or 'chemical-ly'. While wearing this mask, there was a bit of menthol feel to the face, but not exactly cooling for me (does that make sense? haha). I was confused, so I didn't know if that's what I should expect for this variant. Is this a part of the 'soothing' effect? I think I'll need to read up on more reviews. (If you have already tried this variant from My Scheming, please lmk if there are different or similar observations. Leave a comment or message! ðŸ˜˜)

Nearing 10 minutes in the application, there was a lingering hint of charcoal smell from the mask. I also observed the mask to have tightened my skin at the end of using it. Despite my reactions from the sheet mask's scent, it was a relief to find that it didn't break me out the next day. I was worried because of that slight irritation while donning the mask. My skin was just okay after mask use as well as the next day, and there weren't really any noticeable or huge effects from this one.

Pros:
↳ Adhered well to the face
↳ For the kind of material, price is okay
↳ A lot of essence in the packet
↳ Fit is okay

Cons:

↳ Strong soapy smell
↳ Smell irritated my nose
↳ Worried about the 'menthol feel' of the mask to the face
↳ Not a fan of the watery essence

Go-Buy or No-Buy?
This would be a No-Buy for me. I was definitely not a fan of the smell as soon as the mask was on my face. Even after application, my nose still felt irritated from it. Unfortunately, despite having tried other face masks which made me sensitive to its fragrance, this would probably be the first time for me to actually sneeze in the middle of wearing it. I was looking forward to having good results with this mask (or even just for my skin to not have crazy reactions from it) since it listed things I look for the most when I search for face masks.

That is my review for this Aloe Soothing Restoring Black Mask by My Scheming.
Thank you for reading!

**Quick Update: I have always been curious about skincare product ingredients when I weigh decisions on what product would be good to buy. After browsing the internet on how I can monitor or have a re-checker on the products I purchased (or still think about purchasing), I came across SkinCarisma which is a community platform website which is where skincare enthusiasts help each other out in providing reviews and information about different products and what is inside them. In the website, they also have a cosmetic analyzer where you can copy + paste (or also manually input) the ingredients list of a product you're curious about to have an idea of whether the ingredients it contains are good for you and your skin condition. I get to see other skin enthusiasts who additionally explain different ingredients and it got me interested as it is definitely helpful when it comes to smart-shopping for what you put/apply on your skin. So with that, I will be incorporating insights on some skincare products (and face masks!🙈) which ingredients I will be running on their site's cosmetic analyzer.

BTW, just a heads-up that SkinCarisma has additionally stated on one of their information pages that labeling these ingredients can only serve as references and not really strict guides.

According to what is really stated from information bullets on their site:

"A product that contains good or bad ingredients for your skin type doesn't always flat out make the entire product good or bad for your skin. There are other factors such as ingredient quality, concentration, and formulation that will ultimately determine your skin's reaction.

Be smart and use this as just a starting point for you to make more informed and smarter choices and compare it with reviews to see if the product is right for you."
