Faith in Face | Light Effect Hydrogel Mask Review

Hey everyone!
This is the first post for my #MaskOfTheWeek series. In the previous upload, I mentioned that I will be starting on a certain series of posts featuring reviews on face masks that I am looking forward to trying. I've had a couple of masks from a few recent purchases, but I guess I haven't really found the perfect timing to add them to my skincare routine (which is why I'm getting a lot hopeful that this will make me be motivated in using them on a regular basis). I was also thinking about how I should go over with this whole thing; so I will be prioritizing the expiry dates (if there are urgent ones which are calling to be used haha), then I guess it's all going to be based on either the interest factor, the collection by brand, or just how I'm feeling that day. For my starters, I chose the Faith in Face masks that I purchased during the holidays last year since I was so excited to finally see them on shelves after coming across them on a few k-beauty sites a couple of years ago.

First things first, a little background of the brand in focus: Faith in Face. Based on their website, their brand philosophy is all about helping those who use their quality products to gain more confidence through rediscovering and going back to their 'origin of beauty'. The brand was also formed originally by 5 experts from Seoul, London, and Toronto who believed in one mission which was to "Save Everyone's Face" (and came to a reality after having the brand 3 years in the making).

The first one I'm going to do a review on from the ones I've purchased would be the Light Effect Hydrogel Mask.

Before anything else, for those who are wondering what 'hydrogel masks' are (just like me when I first saw them), 'hydrogel masks' are types of face masks that are made of a kind of gel polymer (which has it feeling like jelly) that is known for aiding the healing process of the skin. It is said to form a hydrating barrier which helps in minimizing bacteria, soothing, cooling, and adding hydration and moisture to the areas to where it is applied. Another benefit would be giving a boost in cellular growth and regeneration.

Claims, Functions, and Key Ingredients:

"Turn on the skin light! Feel the difference of your skin and enjoy the moments to find yourself getting prettier in the mirror with Faith in Face Hydrogel Mask"

Based on the packaging, this face mask claims to 'eliminate dullness and even skin tone for a luminous complexion'. With the help of Niacinamide, Centella Asiatica Extract, and Pearl Powder, the main functions are for brightening, calming, and revitalizing your face, further stating that it is effective for improving and whitening your skin tone.

First Impressions:
Well, first off, I was drawn to the product because of the packaging. As I previously mentioned, I was really interested at how it looked since it had a vintage and retro vibe to it. I also liked how pastel colors were used. It appeared very easy on the eyes and not intimidating to be grabbing from a store shelf (which also seemed to be one reason why I would hesitate trying out other skincare products before). In simple words, it looked cute. Doing a face mask haul a couple of months ago, I didn't really bother looking at the material since I wasn't really well-versed on the variety of masks available out in stores. With that said, I was very excited to try out my first 'two-part' and 'hydrogel mask' (two other ones from this same brand are hydrogel ones, too).

Product Review:
Upon opening the packaging, the mask was in between two protective films for ease of unfolding. The mask also comes in two parts: the upper half and the lower half. The mask felt like jello due to its material which made it slippery to hold, slightly heavy, and quite difficult to unfold at first. When applied to the face, it adhered well anyway. There were also bubbles on the first application, but those could easily just be smoothed out. One thing though, the mask wasn't a good fit to the sides of my face which was kind of sad since I was hoping to see reactions from the sides of my face where most of my bumps were. I felt like it was going to fall off even just in the first few minutes of using, but it was okay. I was going around the kitchen to do a few dishes, so I was impressed that it didn't fall off or move despite the walking. However, around 10 minutes of having the mask on my face, the lower half of the mask slowly started to slide down the face.

For how the mask smelled like, it resembled a certain familiar cosmetic product that I've encountered before, but I couldn't point it out. It had a powdery scent, in my opinion. There was no problem though as the scent was just tolerable during the whole time I was using the mask. When I was done using it, the mask then smelled more like jello.

There was not much essence in the mask, however. I also felt that the mask dried almost quite easily. It was also a relief that there was no stinging or itchiness to the skin. A slight cooling effect was there instead since I stored the mask initially in the fridge.

After using the mask, the skin didn't feel too sticky, but rather bouncy. I also observed the skin tone to be lightened a tad bit after use.

One point I've missed was also that the back of the packaging stated a checkpoint which was that the 'skin brightens as hydrogel becomes thinner'. I missed taking note of this and only noticed it as I was writing this very review. 🙊 I forgot to recheck that, so I guess I better try again with other hydrogel mask products haha.

Pros:
→ Adhered well to the face
→ Scent was okay, tolerable
→ Didn't feel heavy to the skin
→ Had a cooling after effect
→ Skin tone brightened a bit after use

Cons:
→ Slightly too pricey for a one-use mask
→ Not so much essence in the pack
→ Didn't fit to the sides of the face

Go-Buy or No-Buy?
I'm most likely pressing the pause button and going to say No-Buy for now. Being a 'first-time hydrogel mask wearer' (could that be a title? lol), it was definitely a mask that was fun to wear. The first impressions were quite good and so was the experience while using it. Unfortunately, it was pricey for a one-use mask, and it also just wasn't a good fit on my face. 😔 So, I guess it just that it's not an instant repurchase for me, but would be interested in trying it the next time around.

That's my review for the Light Effect Hydrogel Mask.
Thank you for reading!
