Hello World!
It's been 9 months since I last posted on this blog. And now, I'm back with another haul. This time, it's with face masks! I have always been meaning to put out a face mask haul as it is one of the favorite things I love about skincare.
With my regular skincare routine, I just stick with the basics (facial wash, toner, sun protection cream, and a moisturizer). Nothing really that extra. I don't get to catch or hop on the train of other skincare products as those already tend to be on the pricier end (and my lazy self also finds it easier to complete my skincare routine almost every day lol). However, with face masks, it's a guilty pleasure of mine that I'm more hooked to and something that I'm interested in exploring more about. During the first few stages of starting to make myself get used to a certain skincare routine, I might have had a few face masks, but I didn't really have the intention and interest of using it to its fullest potential. Eventually, the queries came in when I started to become more aware of certain product ingredients which would benefit more for my skincare needs. I always find it important to emphasize that when choosing products, especially those to be used for the face/body, it would be better if you could do a self-research first before purchasing them right away. Reading up on user reviews or watching informative videos could surely add helpful insights to your future purchases (and definitely help you save money, too).
Anyway, going back on track. Face masks. So, I recently decided to go on this experiment to try out the '1-Mask-A-Day' (or '1일 1팩'/'1 il, 1 paek' in Korean) as an addition to my skincare routine for a week. This challenge has become a trend in the Korean beauty community which was said to have been the cause of the trendy 'glowy glass-like' skin by using 1 face mask per day, similar to taking daily vitamins but for the face.😉

Masks that I have purchased are sheet masks from the SM Store Beauty Section and vary from different brands such as Beauty Buffet, COSRX, Jayjun Cosmetic, Pretty Secret, Purederm, and SNP. The products purchased are listed and shown below (descriptions from the packaging are also provided):
DAY 1
Beauty Buffet 365 Daily Mask in Rice Wine Yeast (23ml)
"Quench your skin's thirst with moisturising boosters to reveal a soft dewy appearance"
"Quench your skin's thirst with moisturising boosters to reveal a soft dewy appearance"
Active Ingredients:
Yeast Essence - It nourishes and helps rebuild skin texture. Revitalised skin looks silky soft and luminous.
Micro Glycine - Effectively lock-in moisture for immediate hydrating effects.
Hyaluronic Acid - Creates a protective barrier against water loss and intensely retains moisture for a supple luminous appearance.
Cucumber Extract and Polyols - Potent moisturising factors help nourish your skin and intensify hydration to create a velvety luminous appearance.
This mask retails at Php 59.00. Other variants available from this brand are Black Pearl, Cherry Blossom, Royal Jelly, and many others.
PROS:
→ The smell was not so strong. In fact, the mask smelled really good.
→ The mask felt refreshing and moisturizing once applied to the face.
→ After use, it brought a slightly lighter complexion to the skin.
→ My face didn't feel oily the following day.
CONS:
→ The mask was sort of fragile. It almost tore easily while I was unfolding it.
→ Before reaching the 20-minute mark, it started to peel off at the sides.
Will I purchase again? Yes :) It was still a very good mask for its affordable price. It's also good for those who have dry skin as its main ingredients contain moisturizing properties.
DAY 2
Purederm Charcoal Collagen Mask
Active Ingredients:
Charcoal Extract - draws out and traps deep-down impurities
Collagen and Vitamin E - helps restore moisture and refresh tired skin
Main functions are for Purifying, Pore minimizing, and Refreshing. I bought this mask at Php 69.00. Other variants available from this brand are Cucumber, Avocado, Chamomile, Blueberry, and Olive. (However, I think the ones available in-store at the time were Charcoal and Cucumber.)
PROS:
→ Once opened, the mask smelled good and did not smell strongly of charcoal (slowly apparent maybe at around the 10-minute mark).
→ The mask fit really well to the face.
→ It also contained a good amount of essence, making the mask stick well to the skin. (it didn't fall off no matter how I shook my head lol)
→ There was a cooling effect to the skin after use. My skin also felt soft. 😍
CONS:
→ Nothing really.
Will I purchase again? Yes. This was definitely one of the best masks among the ones I bought since it achieved the functions that were stated on the packaging. Hopefully, I get to try the other variants as well.
DAY 3
JAYJUN Baby Pure Shining 3 Step Mask (25 ml)
"Make your skin visibly brighter and glow with Jayjun Baby Pure Shining Mask! Brightens, Rejuvenates, Moisturizes."
Active Ingredients:
(1) Blooming Essence - Contains Rose Flower Water and Plant Oil to soothe dry and tired skin from the external environment; Aloe Powder to provide vitality (Damask Rose Water, Baobab Seed Oil, Sclerocarya Birrea Seed Oil)
(2) Baby Pure Shining Mask - Contains various plant ingredients to moisturize and soothe the skin (Ceramide, Beta Glucan, Collagen, Ferment Extract)
(3) Hydro Eye Cream - For protecting and nourishing the skin as well as preventing breakouts (Peptide, Sodium Hyaluronate, Betaine, Jojoba Oil, Shea Butter)
For this sheet mask, it contains three steps which include: (1) Blooming Essence, (2) Baby Pure Shining Mask, and (3) Hydro Eye Cream. Main functions are for Hydrating, Moisturizing, and Nourishing. This mask retails at Php 129.00. Other variants available from this brand are the Collagen Skin Fit Mask and the Brightening Black Mask.
PROS:
→ The essence had a watery gel texture; not the runny kind.
→ It also gave a refreshing feel and was just light on the skin; sheet mask was also very thin (like second skin lol).
→ It didn't have a strong smell.
→ The face mask had a lot of essence in it. 👍
→ It felt moisturizing to the skin after use; definitely different from other masks.
→ The eye cream had a good creamy texture and smelled really good.
→ The next day, I noticed that it evened a few red and dark spots and calmed a few bumps on my face.
CONS:
→ The mask slightly had a weird fit on my face. Some parts were quite thin to cover a part of my face.
→ The mask didn't really stick to the face; got quite heavy after a while (might even have needed to lie down while using it lol).
→ It had a distinct smell to it, but it wasn't really unpleasant or too strong.
Will I purchase again? Yes. I was even really excited to try it at first since it was my first time to encounter a sheet mask that has a 3-step application. Though it is sort of pricier than the first two, the fact that it contains two extra skincare steps in one packet already is a good deal. I would definitely recommend this to those who have dry and flaky skin and those who feel like their skin is looking dull. Might not be for a regular-use kind of mask, but it's a good refreshing kind and I love it and would purchase it again. 😍
(L to R: Jayjun Baby Pure Shining 3-step Mask ; Step 1 Blooming Essence; Step 3 Hydro Eye Cream) |
That's it for the first half of the face masks that I got to use over the week. There are still 4 more left on the list. Part II of the 1-Mask-A-Day Challenge can be read here. Don't forget to check it out!
